At Church of the Harvest, we allow God to lead us in corporate worship in accordance with His  Word.  It's possible you don't understand what that means, and perhaps you have a question about why we do what we do when we worship.  If so, we hope you will find the following Scriptural answers to some frequently asked questions about our worship to be helpful.  As was stated earlier, we endeavor to do everything in accordance with God's Word.

  1. WHY DO WE STAND WHEN WE SING?
    II Chronicles 20:19
    "And the Levites, of the Children of the Kohahites, and of the children of the Korahites, stood up to praise the Lord God of Israel with a loud voice on high."
    Psalms 135:2-3
    "Ye that stand in the house of the Lord, in the courts of the house of our God, Praise the Lord; for the Lord is good: sing praises unto his name; for it is pleasant."

  2. WHY DO WE CLAP OUR HANDS?
    Psalms 47:1
    "O clap your hands, all ye people: shout unto God with the voice of triumph."

  3. WHY DO WE LIFT OUR HANDS?
    Psalms 134:2
    "Lift up your hands in the sanctuary and bless the Lord."
    Psalms 63:4
    "Thus I bless thee while I live: I will lift up my hands in thy name."
    I Timothy 2:8
    "I will therefore that men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting"

  4. WHY DO WE BOW DOWN AND KNEEL?
    Psalms 95:6
    "O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the Lord our maker."

  5. WHY DO WE AUDIBLY PRAISE OUR GOD?
    Psalms 103:1
    "Bless the Lord, 0 my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name."
    Psalms 34:1
    "I will bless the Lord at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth."
    Psalms 100:1
    "Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands."
    Revelation 19:1, 6
    "And after these things, I heard a great voice of much people in heaven, saying, Alleluia; Salvation and glory and honor and power, unto the Lord our God... And I hear as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying, Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth. "

  6. WHY DO WE SING IN TONGUES AND IN ENGLISH?
    I Corinthians 14:14-15
    "For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful. What is it then? I will pray with the Spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the Spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also."

  7. WHY DO WE HAVE THIS TYPE OF WORSHIP?
    John 4:24
    "God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth."
    John 4:23, 24
    "But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in Spirit and in truth for the Father seeketh such to worship Him. God is a spirit.. and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth." Philippians 3:3
    "For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the Spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus and have no confidence in the flesh."

  8. WHY DO WE SING CHORUSES AS WELL AS HYMNS?
    Ephesians 5:18-19
    "And be not drunk with 'vine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit, Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord."
    Colossians 3:16 "Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord."

  9. WHAT IS PROPHECY?
    I Corinthians 12:7 & 10
    V.7 "But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profitwithal. V. 10 "To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues."
    I Corinthians 14:3
    "But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort."
    Amos 3:8
    "... the Lord God hath spoken, who can but prophesy?"

  10. WHY DO WE HAVE SPEAKING IN TONGUES AND INTERPRETATION OF TONGUES?
    I Corinthians 12:7-10
    "But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profitwithal. For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit. To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit. To another the working of miracles; to another prophesy; to another discerning of spirits, to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues."
    I Corinthians 14:5, 27 & 39
    V.5 "I would that ye all speak with tongues, but rather ye prophesied: for greater is he that prophesieth than he that speaketh with tongues, except he interpret, that the church may receive edifying." V.27 "If a man speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course; and let one interpret." V. 39 "Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forebid not to speak with tongues."
    Acts 2: 1-4
    "And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance."
    I Corinthians 14:39
    "Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues."

  11. WHY MAY YOU HEAR PEOPLE PRAYING TO GOD AND WORSHIPPING GOD IN OTHER TONGUES?
    1Corinthians 14:28                                                                                                                                  "But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God

  12. WHY ARE MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS PART OF THE WORSHIP SERVICE?
    Psalms 150:16
    "Praise ye the Lord, Praise God in his sanctuary: praise him in the firmament of this power. Praise him for his mighty acts: praise him according to his excellent greatness. Praise him with the sound of the trumpet, praise him with the psaltery and harp. Praise him with the timbrel and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and organs. Praise him upon the loud cymbals: praise him upon the high sounding cymbals. Let everything that hath breath praise the Lord, Praise ye the Lord. "
    Psalms 150:3-5

  13. WHY DOES THE WHOLE CHURCH PRAY AT ONCE FOR SPECIFIC NEEDS?
    Acts 4:24
    "And when they heard that, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord, and said, Lord, thou are God, which hast made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all that in them is."

  14. WHY DO WE ANOINT WITH OIL AND PRAY FOR THE SICK?
    James 5:14-15
    "Is any sick among you? Let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him."
